The Federal Network Agency has allowed Deutsche Post to raise prices for letters and parcels from 2025, which will have an impact on consumers and also businesses. These changes are an attempt to counteract rising costs in the logistics sector and to respond to falling volumes of parcels in the private customer sector.

What will change for private customers in 2025

Letter postage will increase by up to 10.5 percent

The price adjustments will particularly affect letter postage. Standard letters, which previously cost 85 cents, could cost up to 1 euro in the future, which corresponds to an increase of approximately 10.5%. The German Federal Network Agency justified the price adjustment by stating that the volume of parcels sent by private customers has fallen by 7% and by 3% for business customers. This price increase should help to cover the fixed costs of the logistics infrastructure despite the lower volume. How exactly this increase will be distributed among the various products has not yet been determined.

Increase in parcel prices

Parcels will also become more expensive. For private customers, prices will rise by an average of 7.2%. These increases reflect the growing cost pressure that Deutsche Post is facing due to rising wages, higher operating costs and necessary investments. Despite the price increases, Deutsche Post has criticized the decision of the Federal Network Agency, saying that the increases are not enough to fully cover the increased costs.

Impact on businesses

There is good news for businesses sending parcels, as the announced price adjustment for 2025 initially only affects private customers. The individually regulated conditions for business customers will remain unaffected for the time being.

However, it is reasonable to assume that Deutsche Post could also raise prices for parcels sent by business customers in the future. Whether this will happen and how high the price adjustment would be cannot be predicted at this time.

While the exact impact on parcel shipping for business customers is still uncertain, the postage increases for letters and dialogue mail will also affect business customers. In particular, companies that regularly send letters will have to adjust to price increases starting next year.

It pays to compare prices

Even if the effects of the price increases on parcel shipping for companies cannot yet be predicted with certainty, it may make sense to review your own shipping strategy at an early stage in order to permanently reduce shipping costs.

To find the right shipping service provider with the best prices in the long term, it makes sense to regularly analyze your own partner network. This is because choosing the right shipping service provider can reduce costs. Alternative providers also often offer competitive prices and rates for business customers. Comparing prices and services can be worthwhile to reduce shipping costs in the long term.

We would be happy to check for optimization potential in your current shipping setup.
